Bruce & Millie’s Story
Bruce and Millie are from Castleton, Vermont. They have always led a very active lifestyle. They even took up inline skating in their 50s as a summer activity to stay in shape while enjoying the outdoors. During the next 10-12 years, they became inline marathoners and competed in both the U.S. and Canada.
In April of 2009, while visiting their son and his family in Maui, Millie was hit by a car in a parking lot whose driver had been texting while driving. Her injuries were catastrophic, and she had to be airlifted to the mainland for treatment. After several months in the hospital and two years of extensive rehab, Bruce and Millie realized that returning to skating would be too risky, so they took up biking to maintain their conditioning. They both came to love biking and ventured all over New England, New York, and Maritime Canada searching for new trails to try.
Now that they are well into their 70s, Bruce and Millie decided to look into electric bikes. After much research, Bruce decided on the EVELO Galaxy ST with the Harmony transmission, and purchased one for Millie for Christmas. It wasn’t long before he knew he had to have the same machine for himself! One of their favorite (and most convenient) trails is the 22-mile rail trail between Queensbury and Lake George in the Adirondacks of New York. Leaving Lake George on the return, there is an 8% grade, two-mile climb, where they both love the option of dialing in the pedal-assist if they wish. Most of their biking ventures consist of rides in the 20-40 mile range, so relaxing at times with pedal-assist is very refreshing!
With their Galaxy ST bikes, Bruce and Millie are set for many more years of scenic trails and quality time together. Best of all, they now have a way to stay active while adjusting the level of workload to their individual needs.
